Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival into Cape Town, you will be met airside by a Menzies Aviation representative, assisted through immigration, baggage collection, and customs to the exit. Here you will be met by an Escape to the Cape representative who will transfer you to the Cellars Hohenort where you will stay for four nights.

Optional extra: This evening, the tour kicks off with a welcome dinner with Diana Edelman of Vegans, Baby, which celebrates the vibrant and diverse cuisine you can find in Africa and African culture. At 6:00 pm you will be collected from the hotel and transferred to Gold Restaurant (own account), an immersive experience that will take you on a 14-dish taste safari paired with traditional Mali puppets and entertainment. After dinner (about 9:30 pm) you will be transferred back to the hotel.

Day 2

Get ready for an exciting day of exploration! After enjoying a vegan breakfast at the hotel, you’ll head out for a day exploring Cape Town.

At 9:00 am you will be collected from the hotel by your dedicated Escape to the Cape guide and private vehicle.

Kick off the day with a trip up Table Mountain by way of a cable car. Once on the top, 1000m above the city below, you are rewarded with spectacular 360-degree views. You’ll have time to enjoy this unique environment or go for a short walk before returning to the base by cable car.

Head to District 6, a museum that gives you insight into the apartheid history of Cape Town, followed by a tour of the city and a stop in the colorful suburb of Bo Kaap. You’ll learn about the vibrant neighborhood’s history and try a veganized South African delicacy.

Next, journey along the coastal road to a five-star colonial hotel in the shadows of the majestic 12 Apostles and Table Mountain. Indulge in a modern take on the traditional afternoon tea experience, complete with a three-tier stand filled with sweet and savory treats. Look forward to a delicious selection including scones, dainty finger sandwiches, chocolate brownies, and more. Afternoon tea includes a bottomless selection of loose-leaf teas and specialty coffees.

Following high tea, you will be transferred to the V+A Waterfront. You may choose to walk around the area, or you call it an early night and head back to the hotel. If you wish to stay at the Waterfront, the rest of your night is at your leisure and on your own account. You can take an Uber back to the hotel.

While at the waterfront, walk past the blubbery seals lounging on the pier or settle into one of the relaxed bars and listen to the numerous languages and dialects that fill the air. If you’re still hungry, we will provide you with a list of restaurants nearby offering vegan options. Sample the delightful cuisine and discover a sensational blend of flavors as diverse as its cosmopolitan influences.

Day 3

At 9:00 am you will be collected from your hotel by an Escape to the Cape dedicated guide and private vehicle to travel along Cape Town’s scenic coastal route.

Start off your day with a short tour of the Neighborhood Farm in Fish Hoek, a leading urban farm initiative benefiting the local community. You may purchase hand-crafted coffee drinks and delicious vegan baked goods (on your own account). All proceeds are used to build local classrooms and develop training courses for community members.

Continue the journey along Cape Town’s coastline and visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Observe the penguins at a close distance from a wooden boardwalk without impacting their lives. This area is dotted with enormous boulders and is home to a colony of some 3,000 African penguins.

Afterward, head to The Kelp Shack for a private experience with Chef Phil Mansergh who showcases kelp as a viable food source. Phil’s charming shack is located off-the-beaten-path in one of the most biodiverse areas in all of South Africa. He uses seasonal, foraged ingredients and kelp he has freshly harvested from the ocean to create delectable dishes. Following lunch, take a short walk along the beach – keep your eyes peeled, you may even spot a seal or two!

On the way back to the hotel, meander along Chapman’s Peak, one of the most spectacular marine drives anywhere in the world. The route skirts South Africa’s rocky coastline and offers stunning 180° views with stopping points along the way where you can capture photos and take in the scenery.

Return to the hotel for an evening at leisure. Enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant The Observatory (own account).

Day 4

Enjoy a day at leisure in Cape Town.

At 5:45 pm, meet in the lobby for your private transfer to La Colombe, one of the 50 best restaurants in the world, for a multi-course vegan dining experience. This is one of South Africa’s most iconic and internationally acclaimed establishments where contemporary French-meets-Asian fine dining is served.

You will be transferred back to the hotel following dinner at about 11:00 pm.

Day 5

10:00 am: After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel by an Alluring Africa representative for your private road transfer to Hermanus.

Stop for lunch at La Vierge en route. La Vierge is a lovingly crafted wine estate nestled in the picturesque mountains of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley.

Continue to The Marine Hotel, where you will stay for two nights. The Marine, a member of The Liz McGrath Collection, is one of South Africa’s most spectacular seaside hotels. Located on Hermanus’ famous cliff path, overlooking the breathtaking Walker Bay, the Small Luxury Hotels of the World property offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience the finest land-based whale watching in the world from June to November each year. Guests are even able to view these majestic creatures from their own sea-view bedroom. The Overberg region is also a must for adventure sport seekers, offering a host of activities – including hiking, mountain biking and marine sports. Back at the hotel, guests can indulge in exceptional culinary delights.

Day 6

After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel by a Dyer Island Cruise representative for your Marine Big 5 Boat Tour.

Final time for meeting & pick-up for all trips will be confirmed the day prior to your trip. Please contact the reservations team directly at [email protected] or +27(0)82 801 8014 if you have not received your time by 3:00pm the afternoon prior to your trip.

All cruises depart from Kleinbaai harbor near Gansbaai. Each trip is led by experienced marine biologists and guides who will share their knowledge with you, keeping emphasis on the welfare and conservation of the animal.

Dyer Island is located 8 km from shore and is an access-controlled Important Bird Area (IBA) for the conservation of its many resident bird species, including the endangered African penguin. Adjacent to Dyer Island is Geyser Rock, home to a 60,000 strong Cape fur seal colony. These seals are present all year round. They will take you into the channel of water between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock known as the world-famous ‘Shark Alley’.

You may encounter the more reserved resident Bryde’s whale throughout the year. From mid-December to mid-June they will actively search for this species during their tours. The area is also home to three dolphin species that move through the area – common, bottlenose, and endangered humpback – so if you are lucky, you may see those.

Afterward, enjoy lunch and wine pairing at Schneider’s Cape Floral Kitchen with breathtaking views over Walkers Bay.

Return to the hotel for an evening at leisure.

Day 7

After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel by an Escape to the Cape representative for your private road transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your scheduled flight to Port Elizabeth. Upon arrival, you will be met by a Pembury Tours representative for your private road transfer to Shamwari Long Lee Manor, where you will stay for three nights.

Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive.

Day 8 – 9

Enjoy two full days of activities on Shamwari’s Private Game Reserve.

Morning & Evening Game Drives are guided by your ranger in an open game viewing vehicle. If you have a particular interest, please mention it to your ranger who will be happy to merge your plans with those of the group. The game drives last between three and four hours, with a sundowners stop at sunset and a coffee shop in the morning.

Guided Game Walks can often be the highlight of your African trip, for it is only then that you gain a true perspective of the fauna and flora around you. These walks may only be carried out by specially trained and qualified game rangers.

Spekboom Tree Planting will help offset your trip’s carbon emissions. This remarkable plant is one of the most effective carbon sequestrators globally and is 100 times more effective than a pine tree

Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary tour creates awareness of the horrific way in which wildlife is exploited in captivity around the world. The center’s aim is to draw attention to the plight of wild big cats, confined in impoverished, captive environments throughout the world. Strictly no wildcat breeding is undertaken at the center. It acts as a sanctuary for big cats who are unable to return to the wild.

Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was founded to aid injured animals discovered on the reserve, as well as the surrounding areas. The main goal of the center is to provide short-term care to injured animals and release them back into their natural habitat. None of the animals are kept for breeding purposes. They are temporarily hosted here until they can enjoy a second chance at life in the wild.

Day 10

After a morning activity (time permitting) and breakfast, at a time determined the night before, you will be collected from your lodge by an Alluring Africa representative for your road transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport for your scheduled flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival collect your baggage and proceed to connect with your homebound flight.

Return home, taking with you the sights, sounds, tastes and memories of an incredible African adventure!
