Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival into Cape Town, after completing immigration and customs formalities, collect your baggage and proceed to the Arrivals Hall. Here you will be met by an Alluring Africa representative for your private road transfer to Ellerman House where you will stay for three nights.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will be met by an Alluring Africa private guide for your full day Very Best of the Cape Peninsula tour.

We make our way along the Atlantic seaboard passing Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton. Bakoven and Llandudno, with their ghostly shipwrecks, are also fantastic sights on the way to the fishing village of Hout Bay, where we board a boat to view the Cape fur seal colony on Duiker Island (weather dependent).

From here we navigate the 114 curves of 600m high Chapmans Peak Drive. We enter the Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park with its unique Cape fynbos vegetation and home to birds like African black oystercatchers and Cape sugarbirds as well as to very special fauna including Cape mountain zebra, bontebok (both endemic) and the charismatic Cape baboon.
Climb (or ride the worlds first environmentally friendly funicular) to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse to capture the magical vistas of False Bay.

After lunch, we visit Boulders Beach to see the penguins, and then head home through the naval village of Simonstown and over scenic Boyes Drive, taking in the views of the fishing harbour at Kalk Bay and the seaside havens of St. James and Muizenberg.

To round off your day you can take a stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will be met by an Alluring Africa private guide for your full day city, Table Mountain, and Robben Island tour.

We depart from Cape Towns Victoria & Alfred Waterfront by ferry for a 25 minute trip across Table Bay to Robben Island. Led by guides, some of whom were once inmates, the tour of this World Heritage Site, and South Africas most revered national monument, includes the Prison Block and the now infamous Limestone Quarry, where political prisoners were once forced to toil. It also comprises a drive around the island, with its breathtaking views across the bay.

We then return to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront for a trip along the picturesque Atlantic Seaboard and lunch at a local restaurant en route.

We continue past sunny Camps Bay, over Kloof Nek to Table Mountains Lower Cableway Station. 1 067m above sea level, Table Mountain affords birds-eye views of both the city and Peninsula, as you explore its summit. We return to the city via the old Cape Malay Quarter, for a walk through the Company Gardens, a fresh produce garden for ships and locals from the mid-17th century, and now home to the SA Museum, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St. Georges Cathedral. From there we drive to the Castle, South Africas oldest building, with its large collection of Old Cape paintings. Well take in the nearby Grand Parade, where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation on his release in 1990, and then move on to the District Six Museum.

NB. Visits to Robben Island and Table Mountain are weather dependent. The sequence of this itinerary may change slightly to accommodate the weather.

Day 4

At a time determined the night before, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Tswalu. On arrival, you will be met by a camp vehicle and transferred to Tswalu the Motse where you will stay for three nights.

Time permitting, enjoy lunch and an afternoon activity.

Day 5

Enjoy two full days of activities at camp.

One of the very few mountain ranges in the southern Kalahari – the Korannaberg – casts a benevolent shadow over the rolling dunes and expansive grasslands of Tswalu. Tswalu also receives more rainfall than many other parts of the Kalahari.

In the shelter of the mountains – which also provide a dramatic backdrop to wildlife sightings – you can encounter Tswalu’s 240 bird and 80 mammal species, including Hartmann’s mountain zebra and wild dog.

As we learn more about Tswalu through research projects supported by the Tswalu Foundation, this amazing region continues to surprise. To date, more butterfly species have been recorded here than in the entire British Isles. By way of confounding stereotypes, Tswalu is even home to three species of amphibian.

Tswalu land is not shared with guests from other concessions or lodges. This means that there are no areas that are off-limits, and you can spend as long as you wish at sightings or indulging in your own particular interests, whether they are creatures large or small. A private guide, vehicle and tracker are assigned to each booking, allowing for a completely personalised Tswalu experience.

At Tswalu you’ll encounter species you may have seen elsewhere, along with drier area specialist species that you probably haven’t. While zebra, buffalo and giraffe will be familiar if you’ve been on safari before, this will likely be your first opportunity to capture iconic Kalahari images such as dainty springbok with a backdrop of red sand, or the silhouette of a gemsbok atop a dune.

Many of the species found at Tswalu are of particular significance to the San people, as evidenced by their inclusion in ancient galleries of rock art.

There is a timeless quality to Kalahari – it’s a place where humans have wandered and wondered since the dawn of creation. We stay true to this feeling by letting you shape your own days and spending as long as you wish on each activity.

Day 8

Enjoy two full days in the WInelands.

The currency of Franschhoek is that of wine, gourmet cuisine and luxury hospitality, and the Leeu Collection endeavours to offer its guests the finest in each of these.
