Set out around a hill in the heart of Mugie conservancy, each stone-cottage enjoys sweeping views over the Laikipia plains or the colourful gardens. The interior design brings eyecatching colours and patterns to an airy and expansive landscape, creating the perfect welcoming nature retreat.
Covering almost 50’000 acres, Mugie Conservancy provides a key wildlife access route between the Laikipia plateau, the Mathews Range and the Samburu lands to the north and east. Vast acacia-dotted savannahs, scrubland and olive forests are a haven to a multitude of wildlife in plentiful numbers, including all the big cats, buffalo, elephants and endemic northern Kenyan species such as Grevy’s Zebra, Jackson’s Hartebeet and Reticulated Giraffe.
Mugie Conservancy is at the forefront of modern conservation models, operating as a low-impact cattle ranch alongside preserving the delicate eco-systems. Cutting edge community grazing and livestock trading programs have engaged the local community as stakeholders in the protection and conservation of Mugie. Also supporting wildlife research by Cheetah and Wild Dog Project and Lion Landscapes, Mugie Conservancy is a successful 21st century model of profitable conservation.

After breakfast and a morning activity, you will be transferred by a camp vehicle to the airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Little Governor’s Camp, where you will stay for three nights.
Time permitting, arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon activity.
Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designated โgetawayโ for the Governors of Kenya. Unfenced and right in the heart of the action. Our camps are Located in some of the best and most precious Wildlife Locations in the world. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community & conservation at the heart of everything we do.
Little Governorsโ is intimate in character, with just 17 luxury en-suite tents tucked around a large watering hole that teems with both birds and wildlife. The camp is approached by a boat ride across the Mara River, then an escorted walk through the riverine forest. Vehicles are left on the far river bank, and the camp is therefore quiet and undisturbed. The guest tents at Little Governorsโ have recently been renovated and now have great wooden decks with large verandahs for guests to enjoy the constant game activity that takes place around the watering hole at the camp. All Governorsโ properties are unfenced, and at Little Governorsโ there is a resident family of warthogs that wander freely through the camp. Guests may need to make way for elephants which sometimes visit the camp at lunch time.
Little Governors Camp has just been awarded a Gold Eco-Rating from Eco Tourism Kenya due to our sustainable practices in place in camp which include a comprehensive solar energy system which runs all the camps energy supply. We have also eliminated all plastic bottles from camp replacing them with stainless steel water bottles and a reverse osmosis water filtration system. We have also replaced all plastic guest toiletry bottles with stainless steel re-fillable bottles.

Game Drives
We are in the heart of what is widely considered to be the best game viewing area of the Masai Mara and we offer our guests two to three game drives per day in custom-built 4 wheel drive Landcruisers.Governorsโ Camp properties combine superb locations in the Masai Mara with custom designed vehicles and exceptionally highly trained and experienced guides to give our clients un-matched game-viewing and photographic opportunities in the worldโs prime wildlife area.
Masai Culture Visits
Just outside the Masai Mara National Reserve is a local community called Mara Rianda which consists of 48 traditional houses surrounding a cattle enclosure. We encourage clients to visit this Manyatta if they are interested in Masai culture and would like to experience a way of life unchanged for centuries. Visitors are always struck by the grace and beauty of the Masai people, and the colourful lifestyle they lead. There is also a bustling curio market where guests can buy Masai bead work.
Hot Air Balloon (additional cost)
The adventure begins just before dawn. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, youโre off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness: the silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers of the Masai Mara. The flight lasts an hour or so, drifting wherever the air currents take you, and with ample opportunities for photography and video filming. Then your Governors Balloon Safari finishes with a flourish. In the time honoured tradition of balloon flights the world over, you toast your return to earth with a delicious breakfast (complete with sparkling wine), cooked wherever you land.
Walking Safaris (additional cost)
Whilst out on a walking safari, you can catch the scents and sounds of the wild Africa and uncover a hidden, fascinating and interconnected world of plants, tracks and insects. At the end of it all waits a sumptuous bush barbecue breakfast complete with champagne. You can enjoy some game viewing as you are driven back to the camp through the Masai Mara. Walks take around 1ยฝ to 2 hours and can either be booked in advance or at camp reception.
