Upon arrival into Sun Valley after completing immigration and customs formalities, collect your baggage and proceed to the Arrivals Hall. Here you will collect your rental car for the next sixteen days. Follow the beautiful Big Wood River to the outdoorsy town of Ketchum, where you’ll spend your first night. A ski town to its core in the wintertime, Ketchum is an equally fabulous in the summer – the laid-back, active, mountain vibe is extremely welcoming, and you’ll find a host of fabulous dining options that pair perfectly with day spent enjoying the great outdoors. From your base in the heart of town, you’ll be perfectly positioned to take in a street concert, art walk, parade, or whatever fun activity happens to be going on in this vibrant Idaho community.
On arrival into Ketchum, make your way to the Limelight hotel where you will stay for one night.

This morning, enjoy Sun Valley at your leisure – perhaps a morning stroll to a local coffee joint, or a ride up the Sun Valley Resort gondola and a hike back to the base. When you’re ready, head north on scenic Highway 75, following the Big Wood River to the top of Galena Pass on onward toward the source of the mighty Salmon River near the town of Stanley. On arrival into Stanley, make your way to the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch where you will stay for one night.
Just outside of Stanley and one of the true gems of the Gem State, the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch provides unparalleled western hospitality in a truly stunning landscape, with the opportunity to appreciate the magnificent Sawtooth Mountains up close and personal! We suggest arriving at the ranch early enough to enjoy an afternoon mountain bike ride – mountain bikes are available for guest use at no extra charge, and there are countless trail options available right from the ranch (the staff can help you gear up and pick the right trail). Afterwards, enjoy a soak in the natural hot springs, followed by a fabulous western dinner.

Today, we suggest lingering at the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch as long as you can – until Erica kicks you out! Enjoy a morning horseback ride (complimentary), a hike in the Sawtooths, or perhaps a relaxing soak. When the time comes and you must depart, enjoy the incredibly scenic drive along the Salmon River to the town of Salmon, where you will check into The Stagecoach Inn where you will stay for one night.

This morning, grab a quick bite to eat at the Stagecoach Inn and join the rest of your river crew to head to the put in on the Main Salmon. For the next five nights and six days, you’ll paddle exciting whitewater rapids, enjoy stunning scenery, and camp at perfect white sand beaches as you traverse this remarkable Idaho wilderness.
For the ultimate Rocky Mountain river trip, there is no experience that can rival that of the Main Salmon River! Also called ‘The River of No Return’, this experience is pure, old-fashioned FUN. The Main Salmon River is characterized by the perfect blend of whitewater action, stunning scenery, remote wilderness, and picturesque white sand beaches that could be mistaken for those of the Caribbean! The water is warm and fantastic for swimming, and river runners have excellent opportunities for wildlife encounters and for soaking in natural thermal hot springs during the trip. In addition to the splashy whitewater of the canyon section, there are also several mellow and scenic sections of the Main Salmon that provide great opportunities to try out kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding, and paddle rafting – not to mention photo-opportunities for the ultimate family holiday card!
This route follows the Main Salmon River for six days, and involves five nights of camping. Each day, your guides will line out the plan for the day with information such as the miles to be covered, the terrain that will be encountered, notable rapids, and what types of activities can be enjoyed along the way. Each evening upon arriving at camp, your guides will prepare a riverside dinner that you simply wouldn’t believe to be possible on a camping trip! All camping equipment, river safety equipment, meals, and beverages are provided, so all you have to worry about is packing clothes.

Today is your final day on the Main Salmon River. The morning will be spent packing up your camp and tackling the last of the whitewater on your way to the takeout, with a picnic lunch enjoyed along the way. Upon arrival at the takeout, you will be transferred to the local airstrip near Riggins for a charter flight to Salmon, where your rental car will be waiting for you. From Salmon, you’ll take a scenic and enjoyable drive to the western gate of Yellowstone National Park. Although this is a long travel day, the scenery is quite beautiful! Rest up in ‘West’ (as the locals call it) upon arrival, and make your way to Explorer Cabins at Yellowstone where you will stay for two nights.

Today, enjoy a Full Day Privately Guided Day in Yellowstone National Park.
There is no better way to explore the wonders of Yellowstone National Park than with a private OBP naturalist guide. This morning, meet up with your guide and set out exploring. He or she will ride in your car with you and tailor your exploration entirely around your interests and abilities. You can choose to focus on wildlife, or Yellowstone’s must see sites โ Old Faithful, Lake Yellowstone, Fishing Bridge, geysers, mud pots – or the nooks and crannies of the park that most tourists will never see!

A wonderful adventure awaits today! First, drive through Yellowstone Park past sites like Old Faithful and West Thumb to meet your kayaking and wilderness guide at Lewis Lake, in the southern part of the national park. Together, explore Lewis Lake, migrate upriver to Shoshone Lake, and spend an unforgettable night out in the remote back-country of Yellowstone National Park.
One of the best ways to access and explore Yellowstone’s vast back-country is by self-propelled kayaks. Good exercise, great fun, and no loud noise to disturb the local residents – wildlife, that is! Meet up with your guide at the boat ramp for Lewis Lake, in the southern zone of Yellowstone National Park. After an introduction of equipment and paddling techniques, you’ll begin by paddling the shoreline of Lewis Lake to reach the river channel that connects Lewis with Shoshone Lake. By the time you reach this channel, all thoughts of cars, other humans, and modern-day distractions will be a thing of the past.
The river channel is approximately two miles long, and while most of it can be paddled in your kayak, there is a section that you’ll have to hop out and walk through the ankle-deep water, with your floating kayak in tow. Not to worry, it’s not hard and the scenery is fabulous! Upon arriving at the outlet of Shoshone Lake (by now, quite deep into the back-country and miles away from any roadway), you’ll locate the pristine beach on the shoreline and set up camp, arriving with plenty of time to relax (or continue to explore) before dinner is served

Today, following a leisurely breakfast and breaking down camp, you’ll paddle and float the entire river channel back to Lewis Lake, enjoy a picnic lunch, and then paddle back to your vehicle at the Lewis Lake boat ramp, arriving by about 4:00 p.m. All of the necessary kayak and safety gear are provided, as are excellent meals and high-quality camping gear. Don’t miss out on this incredible Yellowstone back-country experience!
Bid farewell to your kayaking guide this afternoon, and continue your journey south. You’ll leave Yellowstone in the rear-view mirror, but there is so much to look forward to as you approach the majestic Teton Range and Grand Teton National Park. We suggest exploring the park on your own this afternoon before continuing on to Turnip Meadow Ranch where you will stay for three nights.

Today, enjoy a half day privately guided horseback ride.
With a backyard of 2.5 million acres, riding options are endless. Enjoy a privately guided half day of horseback riding with an experienced local wrangler. You’ll ride along the Buffalo Fork River that offers spectacular views of the majestic Tetons. Encounter moose, deer, or the always playful river otter as you ride along and across the river.
This evening, enjoy a privately guided sunset wildlife safari.
Dusk is one of the best times to observe wildlife and the magical light is perfect for photographs. Evenings find the park to be still and quiet, most visitors off eating dinner or asleep, and the wildlife active in the cooler temperatures. This evening, a private local naturalist guide will take you to some wildlife hot spots in the park, offering interpretation and insight to the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.
