This morning, begin your drive to Winthrop for your Lake Diablo Boat Tour with lunch.

On this tour, you will learn about the area’s natural history, biodiversity and geology, as well as the unique relationship between the North Cascades environment and the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project, which provides clean, low cost, renewable power to the citizens of Seattle. As you cruise the glacier-fed Diablo Lake, you’ll learn about the surrounding wildlife habitat and enjoy views of snow-clad mountain peaks, islands and waterfalls. Experience parts of the lake that are hidden from view when traveling the highway or trails. Your tour will come alive with stories about the early explorers and settlers in the area and the challenges of building the three Skagit River Hydroelectric Project dams and powerhouses in a very remote location. The tour ends with a delicious, organic and locally-sourced lunch at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center on the shores of Diablo Lake.

Afterwards, continue on to Sun Mountain Lodge where you will stay for three nights.

Since the early days of the National Park Service, rangers have shared their knowledge through the presentation of interpretive programs-guided walks, talks, and campfire programs for visitors of all ages. Today, that long-standing tradition continues.

At Paradise, you’ll have the time to join interpretive staff for a variety of free programs, ranging from informal talks at park visitor centers to junior ranger programs for kids to evening campfire programs. Topics vary from day to day, and may include geology, wildlife, ecology, mountaineering, or park history. Most programs are available from late-June until Labor Day.

You will venture with your guide on the Hall of Mosses nature loop, which provides some of the most picturesque views the Hoh Rain Forest has to offer. Green as far as the eye can see. We’ll spend the remainder of the tour exploring one of the Pacific Coast beaches along the Olympic Wilderness Coast! Options include Rialto Beach (drive-up access), Ruby Beach (1/2 mile hike) and Second Beach (1 mile hike). All of these beaches feature towering seastacks, massive driftwood logs, and a beautiful forest outlined coast.
