After breakfast, you will make a short transfer north to the canal side village or Fort Augustus for the day. You can either stroll along the canal side and river bank or you can choose to transfer a bit further along the loch to visit the ruins of Castle Urquhart. Castle Urquhart’s history spans many centuries and it is garrisoned for the last time in 1689, following the exile of the Catholic King James VII. In 1692, the gatehouse was blown up so that the castle could never be a military stronghold again.
In the afternoon you will take a relaxed cruise of Loch Ness looking out for eagles soaring above, wild goats on the shore, and of course, Nessie who may be lurking the dark waters.
