After a morning activity and breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for the scheduled charter flight to Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival you will be met by a camp vehicle and transferred to Sayari Camp where you will stay for three nights. Time permitting, enjoy lunch and an afternoon activity.
Sayari is based in the north of Serengeti National Park, with a prime location to witness thousands of wildebeest crash across the Mara River as part of their Great Migration. Overlooking the golden plains, 15 bright and spacious suites have walk-in showers, al fresco tubs and verandas on which you can laze away the afternoon with a book. Sayari’s rim-flow pool is set between natural rock formations for guests to cool off in while watching elephants or zebras ambling past camp. After a dip, treat yourself to a calming massage before an afternoon game drive and sundowners around the campfire.

Our expert field guides offer daily game excursions in modern vehicles to get you up close and personal to the myriad wildlife species that call this wilderness home. While we do have closed vehicles, for the best experience we strongly recommend our open game-viewing vehicles. All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.

If time allows, you may want to skip some of the game excursions. Spend the morning in camp getting reacquainted with a good book or sun yourself beside the rim-flow pool. In the afternoon, indulge in a spa treatment from our expert therapists or savor a leisurely lunch as you scan the horizon for signs of the resident game.

Enjoy a morning gorilla trek.
After a morning briefing by the Volcanoes National Park‘s guides on how to behave in the forest and in the presence of mountain gorillas, you will then enter the park for a gorilla trek which will take you until around midday depending on where you find them. Once the gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten, as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. It is important to take plenty of water. Cameras and plenty of fast speed film is recommended. It can rain at a few minutes’ notice; hence waterproof clothing is a good essential including zip lock bags for cameras and film. After the trek, lunch will be at the lodge. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure for optional excursions/activities.

Enjoy a morning Golden Monkey Trek.
With their prominent golden fur coat, wide fuzzy faces, and beady eyes, the endangered golden monkeys are a thrilling highlight of the national park – amazing to observe up close. Following the fresh leftovers of bamboo, their large groups are usually easy to trace at the bottom of the volcanoes. You’ll love simply watching them graze, socialize, and leap dramatically between trees with the aid of long tails.
The afternoon is free for other optional activities:
ASCENT TO CRATER LAKE: Indulge in an epic adventure on the Bisoke volcano, scaling the forest to be rewarded with a spectacular crater lake at the summit. Approximately 4-hours up and 2-hours down, depending on ability, the experienced rangers will reveal a world of wonder as you traverse the rugged landscape. From native flora and fauna to local history, you’ll learn and see a lot during this full-day jungle expedition.
MUSANZE CAVE EXPLORATION: Step back in time to a network of caves formed 65 million years ago by molten lava flows that forged the epic Albertine Rift Valley. 2-kilometers of easy hiking through the caves reveals dramatic rock formations, dotted with cascading light shafts, spilling greenery, and no doubt you’ll meet the local colony of bats, casually hanging from the stone.
BUHANGA ECOPARK: This intimate forest is a hidden treasure that holds a great deal of biological and cultural significance. The park is set upon an ancient sacred site that was used for the coronation rituals of Rwandan kings. Rugged trails are forged of cut lava stones, weaving through sprawling plants and towering trees to the natural soundtrack of birds and the flash of colorful butterflies. There are several sites of interest to visit along the way, and plenty of folklore to charm you.
IBY’IWACU CULTURAL VILLAGE: Follow the sounds of thunderous drumming and joyful dancing to this traditional Rwandan village, located just outside the national park. A ‘living museum’, it reveals the rituals of life in the ancient Rwandan kingdom and features hands-on activities to acquaint you with the friendly locals. Some of the presenters and performers are in fact former poachers who have been rehabilitated by the opportunity to work in the village.
