Situated just 140 kilometres from Cape Town and built between the beautiful shores and cliffs of Walker Bay, Hermanus has grown from a small seaside resort town to become possibly the best-known place for whale watching in the world. This town is also famed for its natural scenic beauty, long stretches of pristine beaches and excellent variety of restaurants, cafes and bars. Today, Hermanus is more than just a popular holiday destination and offers visitors all kinds of activities, both energetic and relaxing. Visitors can explore the Old Harbour Museum, which is comprised of the charming fisherman’s village, the old harbour, and the Whale House Museum; hike through the nearby Fernkloof Nature Reserve, and sample an array of top quality wine along the famed Hermanus Wine Route.

Enjoy two full days at your leisure at Birkenhead House.
For the more adventurous, Hermanus offers activities aplenty including whale watching, shark cage diving, golf, horse riding on the beach, hiking, surfing, mussel picking and even wine tasting. The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is just a short drive away and is one of South Africa’s premier wine routes.
Whale Watching: Pathways along the cliff edge allow you to explore this wild and beautiful Cape coastline, while the beaches themselves are pristine, safe and easily accessible. Along Hermanus’s famous cliff path you will find numerous information boards about the abundant marine life. The information focuses mainly on the Marine 5 – whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and penguins.
Wine Tasting: The wine list at Birkenhead House celebrates the best of South Africa’s wine from each of the main wine producing regions in the Western Cape. There is however a particular emphasis on the surrounding cool climate regions of Elgin, the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Stanford and Elim which produce superb Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs. Our wine list recently received a Diamond Award from Diner’s Club International.
There is a small wine cellar at Birkenhead House where our wine experts conduct bespoke wine tastings to suit our guests’ interests and palates. From a vertical tasting of Hamilton Russel’s finest to a comparative Pinot Noir tasting from the surrounding regions.

You will be collected from your hotel by an Alluring Africa representative and taken on a Private Full Day City, Table Mountain and Robben Island Tour.
You will depart from Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront by ferry for a 25-minute trip across Table Bay to Robben Island. Led by guides, some of whom were once inmates, the tour of this World Heritage Site, and South Africa’s most revered national monument, includes the Prison Block and the now infamous Limestone Quarry, where political prisoners were once forced to toil. It also comprises a drive around the island, with its breath-taking views across the bay.
You will then return to the V&A waterfront for a trip along the picturesque Atlantic Seaboard and lunch at a local restaurant en route. You continue past sunny Camps Bay, over Kloof Nek to Table Mountain’s Lower Cableway Station. 1,067 metres above sea level, Table Mountain affords bird’s-eye views of both the city and Peninsula, as you explore its summit.
You will return to the city via the old Cape Malay Quarter, for a walk through the Company Gardens, a fresh produce garden for ships and locals from the mid-17th century, and now home to the SA Museum, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St George’s Cathedral. From there you will be driven to the Castle, South Africa’s oldest building, with its large collection of Old Cape paintings. Take in the nearby Grand Parade, where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation on his release in 1990, and then lastly you will move on to the District Six Museum.

You will be collected at your hotel by an Alluring Africa representative and taken on a Private Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour.
We make our way along the Atlantic seaboard passing Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton. Bakoven and Llandudno, with their ghostly shipwrecks, are also fantastic sights on the way to the fishing village of Hout Bay, where we board a boat to view the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island (weather permitting).
From here we navigate the 114 curves of 600m high Chapman’s Peak Drive. We then explore the Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park, home to fabulous birds and very special fauna, such as Cape mountain zebra, bontebok and the charismatic Cape baboon. Climb (or ride the world’s first environmentally friendly funicular) to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse to capture the magical vistas of False Bay.
After lunch, we visit Boulders Beach to see the penguins, and then head home through the naval village of Simonstown and over scenic Boyes Drive, taking in the views of the fishing harbour at Kalk Bay and the seaside havens of St James and Muizenberg.
To round off your day you can take a stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Today enjoy a full-day private Winelands Tour.
This delightful drive winds its way to the heart of the Cape Winelands, through superb mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads.
Head off to the wine country via the N2 to the heart of South Africa’s wine industry, Stellenbosch; boasting great beauty and culture that is steeped in South African history. Walk down the canal-lined avenues, in the shade of giant oak trees and beautifully preserved historic buildings. With the sheer vastness of wine estates on offer, we are truly spoilt for choice when we enjoy our first tasting of the day at the Waterford Estate for a chocolate & wine pairing.
Travel over the Helshoogte Pass to the town of Franschhoek, historically dating back to the 17th century when the French Huguenots arrived. Billed as the Gourmet Capital of South Africa, this charming town, in a most picturesque valley, retains a French Huguenot style.
.We typically would stop at Lunch Le Petit Ferme Restaurant soaking up their magnificent scenery. Post lunch you will have time to stroll the main road visiting its quaint boutiques.
We enjoy another wine tasting onroute before returning to the bustle of city life after an enthralling day in the countryside.

Enjoy two full days at your leisure at Tswalu Motse.
One of the very few mountain ranges in the southern Kalahari – the Korannaberg – casts a benevolent shadow over the rolling dunes and expansive grasslands of Tswalu. Tswalu also receives more rainfall than many other parts of the Kalahari.
In the shelter of the mountains – which also provide a dramatic backdrop to wildlife sightings – you can encounter Tswalu’s 240 bird and 80 mammal species, including Hartmann’s mountain zebra and wild dog.
As we learn more about Tswalu through research projects supported by the Tswalu Foundation, this amazing region continues to surprise. To date, more butterfly species have been recorded here than in the entire British Isles. By way of confounding stereotypes, Tswalu is even home to three species of amphibian.
Tswalu land is not shared with guests from other concessions or lodges. This means that there are no areas that are off-limits, and you can spend as long as you wish at sightings or indulging in your own particular interests, whether they are creatures large or small. A private guide, vehicle and tracker are assigned to each booking, allowing for a completely personalised Tswalu experience.
At Tswalu you’ll encounter species you may have seen elsewhere, along with drier area specialist species that you probably haven’t. While zebra, buffalo and giraffe will be familiar if you’ve been on safari before, this will likely be your first opportunity to capture iconic Kalahari images such as dainty springbok with a backdrop of red sand, or the silhouette of a gemsbok atop a dune.
Many of the species found at Tswalu are of particular significance to the San people, as evidenced by their inclusion in ancient galleries of rock art.
There is a timeless quality to Kalahari – it’s a place where humans have wandered and wondered since the dawn of creation. We stay true to this feeling by letting you shape your own days and spending as long as you wish on each activity.
