Cutting through the reserve, the Uaso Nyiro River lures a large population of animals to the lush park and its banks are a hive of activity. An abundance of wily Nile crocodile can also be found in the riverโs waters. Kaleidoscopic birdlife is as prolific as the wildlife in Samburu National Reserve and the reserve is home to over 350 different species of birds, including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others. Deriving its name from the Samburu people of Kenya, who have inhabited the area for many years, Samburu National Park was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness.

CULTURAL IMMERSION: The Samburu are nomadic pastoralists and follow patterns of rainfall, seeking out lush pastures and water for their cattle, camels, goats and sheep. Clad in a striking red cloth wrapped like a skirt and a white sash, the traditional dress of the Samburu tribe is embellished with vibrant beaded earrings, bracelets, anklets and necklaces. The colorful, decorative jewelry reveals and represents the status of the wearer. A significant and essential part of their culture is the art of dancing. Men dance in a circle and jump high from a standing position, without the accompaniment of musical instruments, using merely their voices to complement their singing and dancing. They reside in a stunning, sparsely populated part of Kenya prolific with wildlife.
FLY CAMPING: Hike along the banks of the river until the dusk sets and then enjoy an al fresco dinner around a blazing campfire in a comfortable fly camp before settling into your sleeping bag for the night. Fall asleep slowly as you gaze onto a kaleidoscope of constellations in the velvety dark sky. As you are falling into your slumber, savor the tranquil hush of the serene surroundings of your fly camp. Listen out for stealthy rustles, the alarm calls of the antelope, the grunts and calls of the predators and the rumble of elephants roused from their sleep. Samburuโs sweeping savanna and lush forests make for magnificent big game country. All the best known predator species reside here and it is a refuge for the rare wild dog and enormous herd of elephants. This is a stunning destination to see an abundance of incredible wildlife that you wonโt see on other reserves in Kenya.

Upon arrival, you will be transferred by a camp vehicle to your airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Ndutu. Upon arrival, you will be met by a camp vehicle and transferred to Olakira Migration Camp, where you will stay for two nights.
Time permitting, enjoy lunch and an afternoon activity.
The mobile Olakira Migration Camp follows the wildebeest migration around the Serengeti, from the epic river crossings in the north to the southern plains where they give birth to thousands of calves each year. Stay with us to witness the greatest animal migration in the world. Between June and October, Olakira is in the north to witness the crossing of the Mara River. Here, watch thousands of wildebeest take a leap of faith into the water, facing hungry Nile crocodiles and cantankerous hippos. When the herds are on the move, the air is full of grunting, thudding hooves and billowing dust. From December until March, we move camp to the southern plains of the Serengeti, where the wildebeest go to give birth and graze on lush grass, and predators such as lions and cheetahs gather to prey on the young.
Even at night, the Olakira Migration Camp experience is special. Our mesh-covered stargazing tents allow guests to sleep under a sky of glittering stars.

Enjoy one full day of game viewing activities at Olakira Camp.
The Serengeti together with Kenyaโs Masai Mara Game Park form Africaโs most famous wildlife park. The image of acacia trees on an endless grass plain epitomizes Africa for many, and then add a Masai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further.
Tanzaniaโs famous migration is a restless thing: shifting with the seasons as the great herds of wildebeest wander between Kenya and Tanzania. And moving with them are the Olakira camps… as the migration progresses, so the campโs luxury tents pick up their feet and follow. In the dry months of winter Olakira Mara River enjoys some of the best views of the herds migrating out of Kenya across the treacherous Mara River. By November, with the herds on the march, Olakira swiftly follows to witness the incredible calving in the great grassy plains of the southern Serengeti.
Wildlife viewing and bird watching game drives are offered twice per day. Experienced guides encourage guests to see and experience the Serengeti through their eyes, sharing a world of small and large wonders that only they truly know and understand. Guests can arrange full days in the bush with picnic lunches at an additional cost.
