How do I prevent my car or its contents from being stolen?

Overall, crime rates are very low along all routes in Namibia.  However, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, and we recommend the following tips to avoid theft:

  • Theft is only concentrated around towns – there is little need to worry in rural areas
  • If you are in a populated area and leaving your car, take all valuables with you (or at least make sure they’re out of sight), and lock all doors and windows
  • If you want to stop and walk around a town along the way, it’s best to park at a gas station because they will have 24 hour security cameras
  • While it’s not an uncommon practice, we don’t recommend picking up hitchhikers in Namibia

It might be difficult to pick up this hitchhiker anyway
