After breakfast, depart with your private driver/guide for Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way you can stop in Mto Wa Mbu village, thought to be one of the only places in Tanzania where there are representatives from all 120 tribes living happily side by side. During your visit youโll get a good feel for the social side of the village โ the farms and the milling machines, the schools, markets and churches. Your guide will happily answer any questions you might have, and will help you to gain an understanding of the inner workings of this typical Tanzanian community. You can even visit a local โbarโ to try mbege, the traditional banana and millet beer that is brewed and drunk mainly by the Chagga tribe. Walk through the bustling local market, with colorful stalls selling fruit and vegetables, spices and meat.
After a short game drive and picnic lunch in Lake Manyara National Park, continue up the escarpment to the community of Karatu where you will stay at Gibb’s Farm for three nights.
Gibb’s Farm is a working farm located on the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It comprises a warm and friendly community where the rhythm of farm life has calmed and restored the weary safari journeyer for over 40 years. Hugging nearly a mile of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, part of a 3,200 square mile reserve, the Farm is ideally located, half way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, near the village of Karatu.
Set among formal English gardens, the Farmhouse and 20 en suite cottages are the heart of a working farm. Built in 1929, the Farmhouse has hardly changed, retaining the charm of a well looked-after private house. Cozy living rooms and reading corners are just steps away from the dining room, bar and gift shop. Fireplaces fill the Farmhouse with warmth and historical charm.

Descend into the 100-square-mile Ngorongoro Crater to view game on the vast grasslands of the crater floor. This magnificent natural amphitheater is said to have the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa, including a high density of lions and thousands of flamingos. The ever-changing mood of this great amphitheater will hold your attention every second.
Formed by the collapsed cone of a Great Rift Valley volcano some three million years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular natural sanctuary to more than 30,000 animals. More than 350 species of birds have been recorded. Its steep, unbroken rim plunges 2,000 feet to a 102 square mile floor. It is known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Many scientists suggest that before its eruption, this volcano was larger than Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The crater contains a variety of ecosystems and an astounding concentration of birds and animals. Encounter massive herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelles. This area affords an opportunity to spot the Big Five, which includes African elephant, leopard, the black-mane lion, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros.

After breakfast, depart with your private driver/guide to Lake Eyasi where you will stay at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp for two nights.
Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp is a small safari camp perched on the edge of Lake Eyasi in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. As the soda lake is seasonal, during the drier months there may be little water, but the upside of this is the soda which attracts some lovely birdlife. Beyond the lake is the Rift Valley escarpment, rising high and leading to the Ngorongoro Crater. The camp itself is situated on the shore of the lake, amongst acacia and date palm vegetation and is part of a 200 acre family-owned farm. There are seven tents here, situated on wooden platforms and with thatched roofs. They are proper walk-in tents, with en suite bathrooms with showers, and whilst simple in their design, they are perfectly comfortable.
The area is home to the Wahadzabe tribe, a fascinating group of nomadic bushmen who speak the unusual click-language. These hunter-gatherers add a fascinating cultural aspect to the region and the chance to interact with them and learn more about their ancient traditions makes a stay at Kisima Ngeda really unique.

The camp has plenty of activities to enjoy including mountain biking or hiking along the lakeside trails. Depending on the water levels, there is canoeing on the lake. But the most popular activities involve cultural interactions with the local tribes. The waDatoga people are a pastoral group like the Maasai, and itโs always interesting to visit the local Blacksmith or a Datoga boma. There are also trips into the bush with the nomadic, hunter-gatherer Hadza Bushmen who speak a unique click-language. The camp can generally arrange a trip to either go hunting with them or spend the morning gathering roots or seasonal fruits.
Hadzabe people
The main reason that most people visit the Lake Eyasi area is to meet and interact with the Hadzabe people, a small tribe of around hunter-gatherers who live on thin strip of the land below the escarpment. These people, who number around 1000 individuals, are the only remnants of the tribes which inhabited the area for up to 50,000 years, before the arrival of Bantu and Nilotic peoples in the last few centuries. They are closely related to other ancient tribles across Africa, such as the San Bushmen of the Kalahari in Botswana, with whom they share superficially similar traditions and lifestyles. They also speak in a click language. It is possible to visit Hadzabe settlements and spend time with the people. Usually this is done early morning, which enables you to join the men on their daily hunting trip, which can last anything from two to four hours, depending on what they find. Their bows are made of giraffe tendons and their arrows treated with a poison extracted from the desert rose. Alternatively you can join the women on their gathering walks, digging for roots, picking berries and gathering fruits. Remarkably these people do not own belongings other than what they need for survival like the bows and arrows and some pots for cooking.
Datoga people
The Datoga people are largely pastoralists who mainly inhabit the Yaeda, Isanzu and Sukuma areas further south. They are thought to have migrated here from the Horn of Africa some 3000 years ago. They wear traditional clothes, often decorated in colored beads and the women sometimes have traditional facial scars and tattooing. They are renowned silversmiths and their small satellite settlement here in Eyasi provides visitors with an opportunity to witness first hand their traditional metalworking skills. This is also a relatively relaxed and pleasant experience.
Walking
There is a network of trails along which you can explore the palm and acacia woodlands and the lakeshore, as well as surrounding farms and villages.

You have two full days in the Serengeti! Venture out for morning and afternoon game drives, or go farther afield on a full day game drive with picnic lunch. The choice is yours!
The central Serengeti consists of the plains woodland border and transition zone. In this area, the great Serengeti plains gradually diffuse into gentle rolling hills and the woodland habitat that dominates the western and northern regions of the park. The central Serengeti is home to the beautiful Seronera valley. Several perennial rivers run through this valley enabling many resident animals to thrive year round. The combination of location and resident prey attracts the largest populations of predators in Africa. It is this amazing abundance and diversity of easily seen large predators that attracts thousands of visitors and hundreds of researchers to the Seronera River Valley each year. There is simply no better place in Africa to observe these large carnivores and since many are resident, excellent encounters are available year round regardless of the season or where the great migratory herds are located. It is not unusual to see all four large predators (lion, hyena, leopard and cheetah) during the course of a day in the central Serengeti.
