Lemala Ngorongoro is intimately set in a delightful ancient acacia forest close to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. As it is located next to the quiet Lemala crater access road on the eastern side, a key advantage of staying at Lemala Ngorongoro is the quick and easy drive down on to the crater floor in the morning; Lemala guests usually have an hour’s head start over others descending via the far busier Seneto crater access road on the western rim. And of course can stay later in the afternoon before returning to camp. As Africa’s game is most active in the early morning and late afternoon this means better wildlife experiences for Lemala guests.

Game drives from camp may start as early as 6.15am and guests can be down among Ngorongoro’s abundant wildlife on the floor within 10-15 minutes – crucial for photographers who demand the best light conditions. Escorted walks are also available into the forest and along the crater rim with an armed ranger and Maasai guide.

One authentic mobile tented camp, but in two locations, Lemala Ndutu & Lemala Mara moves north and south with the seasons to ensure guests enjoy ringside seats to the spectacle of the magnificent wildebeest migration year-round. Both are set up in sublime locations offering a high-quality safari experience with excellent guiding.

The 12 tents of Lemala Mara Tented Camp travel north between June and October to set up under large Euclea trees in one of the best game viewing areas of the Northern Serengeti. The exact location varies from year to year. Sometimes we set up camp close to the Mara River, but are always far enough away to remain discreet and not interrupt wildlife behaviour as the wildebeest mass along the steep banks during their frantic crossing on their way north to the Maasai Mara. Here, in this immense remote wilderness, guests can enjoy fabulous landscapes and terrific game viewing with practically no crowds. Resident wildlife numbers are always high, but nothing compared to the dramatic scenes during the migration as tens of thousands of animals gather to then plunge into the crocodile-infested river.

Day 1

Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro, after completing immigration and customs formalities, collect your baggage and proceed to the Arrivals Hall. Here you will be met by an Alluring Africa representative for your private road transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge where you will stay for one night.

Day 3 – 4

Enjoy two full days of game viewing activities at Oliver’s Camp.

Oliver’s Camp is situated in the remote south-eastern reaches of the Tarangire National Park. This relatively undeveloped park – celebrated by safari travellers looking to head a little off the beaten track – offers a welcome respite from the crowds of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater to the north. Oliver’s is perfectly situated to ensure a year-round Tanzania safari experience as each passing season paints Tarangire in vibrant new colors.

Morning, afternoon and night game drives are done within the park. Walking safaris are a specialty of Oliver’s Camp. The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you’ll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe. Guests can also book a fly camping experience which is typically booked as part of a walking safari or as an exclusive and private night away from the main camp. This small and intimate lightweight camp is a fantastic experience for those seeking something a little more adventurous (additional cost).

Tarangire boasts large herds of elephant and buffalo, plus a large concentration of big cats and arguably the best bird diversity in East Africa with more than 500 species. But there’s more to Tarangire than the game and birds. This rugged landscape offers a unique safari backdrop that transforms from rolling grasslands and vibrant swamps to forests of enigmatic baobab trees; according to legend, planted ‘upside down’ for growing too tall and proud.

Day 6

Enjoy a full day game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater.

Descend into the 100-square-mile Ngorongoro Crater to view game on the vast grasslands of the crater floor. This magnificent natural amphitheater is said to have the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa, including a high density of lions and thousands of flamingos. The ever-changing mood of this great amphitheater will hold your attention every second.

Formed by the collapsed cone of a Great Rift Valley volcano some three million years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular natural sanctuary to more than 30,000 animals. More than 350 species of birds have been recorded. Its steep, unbroken rim plunges 2,000 feet to a 102 square mile floor. It is known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Many scientists suggest that before its eruption, this volcano was larger than Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The crater contains a variety of ecosystems and an astounding concentration of birds and animals. Encounter massive herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelles. This area affords an opportunity to spot the Big Five, which includes African elephant, leopard, the black-mane lion, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros.

Day 8 – 9

Enjoy two full days at Lemala Mara Tented Camp.

Stretching as far as the eye can see, this sprawling national park is amongst the largest in Tanzania. In the south find open plains, a sweeping savannah speckled with acacia trees in the center, rolling grasslands to the north, and dense woodlands and black clay pans in the west.

The Serengeti, Tanzania’s first and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and in recent times declared a 7th world wide wonder, is well known for its annual migration, when some six million hooves beat the wide open plains. Watch as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Even when the migration is not at full force, the Serengeti offers arguably the ultimate game-viewing in Africa: boundless herds of buffalo, smaller clusters of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.

Day 11 – 12

Explore this remote and fascinating island with the various tours and excursions offered. Arranged at the resort to suit you and your personal interests, they range from walks to local villagers to guided tours through the ancient Ngezi Forest to searching for the endemic Pemba Flying Fox.

Snorkeling

Pack your snorkel gear and a picnic and enjoy a half day boat excursion down to the islands of Njao or Fundo. Fins, snorkel and mask included in price. 60 usd /person.

Lighthouse Walk

This walk takes approx 20 mins. You will be accompanied by your service-fundi. No charge except for a dollar entrance if you wish to climb the lighthouse and get the tour by the operator in charge.

Ngezi Rainforest

The Ngezi is a protected forest reserve and is home to a variety of endemic bird species, the pemba sunbirds, green pigeon, and scops owl to name a few. It is also home to vervet and black colobus monkeys. The ranger will guide you on a 45 min walk through the forest. Cost: per person including case study writer transport.

Sandbank Trip

At low tide a sandbank protrudes to offer a walk on the purest white coral sand surrounded by azure blue waters. This excursion relies heavily on the tides, currents and weather conditions and is not always possible. A cooler box of fruit and refreshments is brought along. This is a 10 minute boat ride from the resort. per person.

Ngalawa Sunset Cruise

An Ngalawa is the traditional sailing vessel used by fishermen on the island. Leaving from the beach at around 5:00 pm, you will cruise along the shoreline over the reefs enjoying the sunset, the thrill of the sail and a refreshment. dollars per person paid directly to the local fishing captain.

School Trip

Your service-fundi would be honoured to take you on a walk to the nearby village to meet our friendly neighbours. A reading book or colouring books with crayons are always very much appreciated. No cost.

Catch and Release

You’ll be going out on our Ngalawa Zanzibar and trawl the waters up and down the west coast of Pemba. Although simple equipment, you’ll be be in for a struggle when hooking a wahoo, tuna, sailfish, dorado, giant trevally or a barracuda. Boat, captain and equipment included in price. 90 usd / hour.

Pemba Safari

The Pemba Safari is a day trip with several different stops. Pick and choose what you would like to include in your safari, and how much time you would like to spend. If you do it all it will take you a good 8 hours starting at 8.30 in the morning. per person.
