Tarangire National Park is a little gem in the northern Tanzania safari circuit. Less well known than its big brother, the Serengeti, Tarangire boasts the next greatest concentration of wildlife after that magnificent area. The herds of elephant and buffalo are surprisingly big here, often numbering in the hundreds. There is also a great variety of plains game including giraffe, eland, impala and zebra to name but a few. Of course, this also makes for perfect cat territory and weโve often quietly observed large prides of healthy looking lion and been privileged to see a few leopard during our exploits here.
Tarangire is a fabulous launch pad for a safari into Northern Tanzania. Itโs relatively easy to get to yet it has an authentic rawness of a true safari destination. Itโs one of the best places to observe wildlife doing its thing in a way that Hemingway would have done all those years ago.

After breakfast, depart with your Alluring Africa private vehicle/guide to Entamanu Ngorongoro, where you will stay for two nights. Enjoy a game drive and picnic lunch en route.
Entamanu Ngorongoro sits on the remote Northwestern corner of the Crater rim, accessed via their own road that offers spectacular views down over the Southern Serengeti and over the rim to the immensity of the Crater below. Entamanu were adamant when they chose to nest at the Crater, that it would be in a place where it is still an experience of the Crater of old. Far from the crowds, tucked away and remote, the site is in the only place where you can watch the sun rise over the Crater, and set over the Serengeti. The site plays host to all of Mother Natureโs most dramatic tricks. It can be cold, windy and foggy, but as long as you come prepared the reward is great! This is how it feels to really live on the edge of the world, right up close and personal with the wild of these volcanic highlands. A lot of thought has gone into keeping everyone comfortable up here where the elements are king.

After breakfast, descend into the crater for full day game viewing with picnic lunch and your private vehicle/guide.
Here you can see a spectacular concentration of wildlife, including the big five. Drive across the dense forest and near the soda lake and enjoy viewing a variety of bird life. Ascend to the lodge from the 2,000 ft. deep crater. This magnificent natural amphitheater is said to have the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa, including a high density of lions and thousands of flamingos. The ever-changing mood of this great amphitheater will hold your attention every second. Formed by the collapsed cone of a Great Rift Valley volcano some three million years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular natural sanctuary to more than 30,000 animals. More than 350 species of birds have been recorded. Its steep, unbroken rim plunges 2,000 feet to a 102 square mile floor. It is known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Many scientists suggest that before its eruption, this volcano was larger than Mt. Kilimanjaro. The crater contains a variety of ecosystems and an astounding concentration of birds and animals. Encounter massive herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelles. This area affords an opportunity to spot the Big Five, which includes African elephant, leopard, the black-mane lion, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros.
Sometimes we drop round to see our Maasai neighbors, who are living a largely traditional life in the boma in the next valley, and still grazing their cattle in the conservation area. It will be just us and them, and a warm welcome, with insights into the pastoral life, from building huts to warrior ceremonies.

After breakfast, depart with your Alluring Africa private vehicle/guide to Serengeti Safari Camp, where you will stay for three nights. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route and time permitting, an afternoon activity.
A million and a half wildebeest and zebra canโt be wrong, and this camp never settles for less. This canvas home-from-home and its indomitable crew are on the move year-in, year-out from one sweet Serengeti site to another, guided by the mass movements of the wildebeest migration and their quest for ever greener grass. Along with it come our highly trained naturalist guides and all the trimmings of a classic safari.
Enjoy safari living at its finest, in one of six open plan Meru tents and one family tent, each with en suite bathrooms including safari- style bucket showers with hot water on demand, and flushable eco-toilets designed for minimal environmental impact. The main area include both indoor and outdoor dining, a well stocked library tent and bar tent, as well as an outdoor fireplace with seating area.

Enjoy two full days of game viewing activities in the Serengeti National Park.
You can plan your own days – out from dawn till dusk or in shorter bursts – with breaks back in camp.
June is frequently a superb time to see the migration in the western corridor, and here the herds face their first major obstacle in the form of the Grumeti River with its mighty crocodiles. Wide shots are hard to believe, plains dotted with creatures as far as you can see. In close-up, a host of dramas of hunters and hunted will unfold, to be etched on your memory: moments of conflict, peace, excitement, even comedy. Weather patterns at this time of year have a huge impact on migration movements and the herds can split up to follow different migration routes, double back on themselves to Seronera and Moru, spread out and generally provide a challenge for guides. Out on the plains, there inevitably are show stealers โ lions with cubs, cheetahs stretching their legs, hyenas bickering. But itโs often the cameo roles that fascinate – dung beetles, dik-diks, bee-eaters.
