Here you can see a spectacular concentration of wildlife, including the big five. Drive across the dense forest and near the soda lake and enjoy viewing a variety of bird life. Ascend to the lodge from the 2,000 ft. deep crater. This magnificent natural amphitheater is said to have the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa, including a high density of lions and thousands of flamingos. The ever-changing mood of this great amphitheater will hold your attention every second. Formed by the collapsed cone of a Great Rift Valley volcano some three million years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular natural sanctuary to more than 30,000 animals. More than 350 species of birds have been recorded. Its steep, unbroken rim plunges 2,000 feet to a 102 square mile floor. It is known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Many scientists suggest that before its eruption, this volcano was larger than Mt. Kilimanjaro. The crater contains a variety of ecosystems and an astounding concentration of birds and animals. Encounter massive herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelles. This area affords an opportunity to spot the Big Five, which includes African elephant, leopard, the black-mane lion, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros.

Enjoy thee full days of game viewing activities at Taasa Lodge.
GAME DRIVES: During certain months of the year (typically June โ October) the migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra make for one of the natural worldโs most spectacular sights. River crossings, especially, are not to be missed. After dithering back and forth on the banks one brave wildebeest jumps in, with hundreds following behind. The migration is a phenomenon that must be seen to be believed. Youโll be mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the natural world at its most impressive. TAASA is ideally situated for the Northern Serengetti migration towards the Mara River.
WALKING SAFARI: Walking in the bush, surrounded by all the sights, sounds and smells of Africa is completely different and more personal experience than a drive in a Safari vehicle. Learn about medicinal plants, how to start a fire with sticks, and the wildlife you might encounter.
VILLAGE VISIT: The Maasai are among the best known of African tribes due to their adherence of distinctive customs and dress. Whereas many of the Maasai bomas found in the Northern Tanzanian Safari circuit are geared entirely towards visiting tourists, the Maasai of Ololosokwan remain unaffected by large scale tourism and are therefore always enthusiastic about sharing their cultural beliefs with the few visitors they receive. A visit among the local people of Tanzania can easily become one of the most rewarding experiences of a visit to Africa.
SHOPPING: Unlike other touristy Maasai Markets in Tanzania, all of the items you’ll find at TAASA are made in the small village of Ololosokwan. Guests will find original items and can feel good that all purchases directly support this rural community.
MAASAI HONEY & CANDLES: Maasai Honey is a beekeeping project located in the small village of Ololosokwan. The mission is to teach the local Maasai women how to harvest honey and make candles as a means to introduce a sustainable income generating project.
โMAASAI BEADWORK: Maasai beadwork is created by the local women featuring many beautiful designs. However, there is deep meaning behind the beauty. The colors are selected for their symbolic values. For example, red symbolizes bravery and strength. Blue means energy and represents the sky. White equals purity and black symbolizes the people and all the struggles they must endure. The beadwork is literally a visual representation of a life story.
MAASAI FABRIC: The main garment worn by the Maasai is called the shuka. This fabric comes in a variety of colors and can be used as a blanket, throw over, wall hanging or in a variety of sewing projects.
MAASAI CARVINGS: Maasai artisans apply their talents to create decorative figurines, bowls and utensils that have been hand carved from a solid piece of wood.
SUNDOWNERS: Perched on a hill above the tents and overlooking the valley, you will marvel at the setting sun as you sit around a bonfire with drinks of your choice and tasty treats. After cocktails โ with the fire blazing and stars twinkling above โ you will enjoy a classic African dinner.
NIGHT DRIVES: Load into our open-sided Toyota Land Cruiser with warm blankets and head out in the dark of night under starlit skies. The experience of a game drive at night is very different from one during the day and you may see striped hyena on the prowl or lions on hunt. Your Maasai guide will be in his trackerโs chair mounted on the vehicle front with his floodlight sweeping for reflective eyes of predators. One never knows what will be lurking in the dark, but it is guaranteed to be electrifying and totally unlike your daytime game drives.
DINING: Meals are offered inside the main lodge, outside ‘el fresco’ on the terrace, or on your private veranda outside your tent upon request. A large outdoor patio with fire pit and lounge chairs provides the perfect venue for aperitifs and hors dโoeuvres. Or enjoy a cool cocktail while soaking in our new infinity pool overlooking the Lobo Valley.
